BIOGRAPHY

treeHamish was born in Devon, UK, and took a keen interest in the piano and music in general at an early age. He took lessons using the Suzuki method which he strongly attributes for aiding an astute aural awareness at a young age. Through his early and mid teens he also learnt the french horn and orchestral percussion and went on to university to study percussion and drums (under Malcolm Garrett) at the Birmingham Conservatoire.

It was here he started getting more serious about jazz piano, having studied predominantly classical repertoire until this stage and through listening/transcribing and playing in various settings taught himself an extensive understanding of the jazz piano idiom and its various faculties.

Since leaving university Hamish has played and recorded with numerous artists and has had the opportunity to travel all over the world with various bands and on cruise ships. Some destinations include America, Canada, Caribbean, Spain, Poland, Morocco, Algeria and the U.A.E.

Some of the artists he has worked with include Taj Mahal, Rufus Reed, The Temptations, The Shirells, Dave Moor, Incognito and Trace Adkins, as well as many other artists in London and the UK, where he is currently living.

At present he is working regularly in his own trio and quartet, playing originals and standard repertoire and in various other London based bands including female singer song writing sensation Tommy Ludgate (CD Wall of Words 2008) Salsa band Riamba and greek fusion guitarist Tolis Zavaliaris, as well as the new disco project Killer whale featuring Mary Moore from Groove Armada, Faze Action and Yam Who. He also appears as a solo pianist for many occasions around the U.K. He is currently working in the studio on remix and original work with Yam Who and Robert Strauss among others.

In early 2010, Hamish is planning on releasing his first album of original pieces.
